Jean Anderson Doolittle

April 23, 1933 — May 10, 2023

Mrs. Jean Anderson Doolittle, age 90, of Oconee passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at her residence.   A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 13 th at 11:00 a.m. in Bay Springs Cemetery in Oconee.  Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Randall Smith will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Shane Doolittle, Richie Doolittle, Lamar Doolittle, Anthony Parker, Johnathan Bailey and Tyler Mathis.  Honorary Pallbearers will be John Michael Doolittle, Eli Doolittle, Chris Mathis, James Byrd, David Anderson, Jimmy Doolittle and Danny Anderson.  Mrs. Doolittle's family will receive friends also on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Bay Springs Methodist Church.

Born Willie Eugenia Anderson in Oconee, she was the daughter of the late John D. Anderson and the late Bessie Lee Tompkins Anderson.  Jean was reared in Oconee and a member of Bay Springs Methodist Church.  She attended school in Oconee and graduated from Tennille High School.  Jean attended Georgia Business School in Macon and worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base.  She later became a homemaker and dedicated her life to her family.  She and her husband Billy lived most of their lives in the Tabernacle Methodist Church area where they were both active members of the Church.  Later in life, she returned to her homeplace in Oconee where she continued her love of growing and arranging flowers, especially Christmas cactus and geraniums.  Jean had a passion for genealogy and volunteered much of her time helping people with family research.  Many considered her a great friend and often sought her advice and counsel.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 66 plus years, Billy Doolittle; children, Gail Knight of Oconee, Leslie Mathis of Sandersville and William Eric Doolittle and his wife Susan of Johns Creek; grandchildren, Megan Hunter, Eli Doolittle, Tyler Mathis, John Michael Doolittle, Richard Doolittle, Shane Doolittle, Christopher Mathis and Sean Knight; and great-grandchildren, Annie Doolittle, Wyatt Doolittle, Joshua Mathis and Avery Mathis.
