Jean Miller Sheppard

Mrs. Jean Miller Sheppard, age 97, of Sandersville, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Heritage Inn.  A graveside funeral service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday, September 28 th at 11:00 a.m. in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey and Reverend Andy Yates will officiate.

Mrs. Sheppard was born in Cordele, Georgia, the daughter of the late Cleve Bivins Miller Sr. and the late Jessica Gamble Pless Miller. Her family moved to Washington County when she was a young teenager and she graduated from Sandersville High School. Mrs. Sheppard attended North Georgia College until World War II brought her home and then she married her husband, Charles Edward Sheppard who predeceases her.  Together, she and Charles raised a family on their family farm.  Mrs. Sheppard later served as bookkeeper for Sheppard and Son Land Reclamation Company. Mrs. Sheppard was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville. She was also a member of the Jarid Irwin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of both the Washington County Historical Society and the Town and Country Garden Club.  Mrs. Sheppard was an avid bridge player and loved playing bridge with close friends.

Survivors include her children, David Sheppard and his wife Mary Ann of Cartersville, Jessica S. Heldreth and her husband Charles, Edward Alan Sheppard and his wife Mary Jo and Leona S. Rogers and her husband Rhonie all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Niki Murray, Melissa Abernathy (Allen), John David Sheppard, Charles Henry Heldreth III (Jennifer), Daniel Miller Heldreth (Mandy), Matthew Neil Heldreth (Lauren), Edward Alan Sheppard Jr. (Elizabeth), Rebecca Chapman (Gregory), Samuel Luthur Rogers (Kalen) and Amy Jessica Rogers (Lindsey); 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and employees of Heritage Inn Nursing Home for their loving care and compassion. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Mrs. Jean M. Sheppard.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
