Mr. Jerry Robert Curry, age 76, of Tennille, died at his residence on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 5 th at 2:00 p.m. at Piney Mount United Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Ken Jackson, Jimmy Lewis, Wayne Layton, Randy Flanigan, Kenny Smart, Jimmy Prince, Waylan Hitchcock and Jimmy Ray Smith.  The Washington County High School Class of 1963 will sit as an honorary group.   Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4 th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Jerry was a Washington County native, the son of the late Curtis Curry and the late Mary Ellen Hyatt Curry.  He was a member of the Washington County High School class of 1963 where he discovered his love of machinery while in Mr. Robert Young's industrial arts class.  Following high school, Jerry attended Trinidad State College in Colorado where he graduated as a machinist and a gunsmith.  Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during Viet-Nam as an instructor with the US Army School Europe in Germany.  After military service, Jerry returned to Washington County and began a career as a machinist working for American Industrial Clay Company and Georgia Kaolin. Following work in the Kaolin Industry, Jerry worked as an instructor for Oconee Fall Line College as well as working for himself as a gunsmith and a machinist.  He was reared in the Bay Springs Methodist Church in Oconee and was a current member of the Piney Mount UMC in Tennille.  In addition to his parents, Jerry is predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Caryn Curry.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Lockhart Curry of Tennille; daughter, Alicia Curry Pociatek and her husband Bryan of Statesboro; grandchildren, Annalise Jewell Dominski of Athens and Margaret Elizabeth Young of Statesboro; sister, Meredith Williams of Oconee and borrowed family, Brad and Serretta Griffeth and their son Eli.

Donations may be made to the Curry Memorial 4-H Scholarship Fund C/O Piney Mount UMC, P.O. Box 575 Sandersville, Ga. 31082.
