Mr. Jimmy Lord, age 79, Lee Street in Sandersville, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey, Reverend Mack Jackson, Elder Kenneth Brantley and Reverend Andy Carter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gary Hutcheson, John Jones, Bill McCullough, George Garbutt, Tommy Walker, Horace Daniel, Thomas Smith, Tommy Sheppard, Gary Anderson, Dwight Riddle, Larry Mathis, George Lord, Harold Dawson, and Larry Carlson. Honorary pallbearers are former associates with the Georgia General Assembly.

Mr. Lord was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the son of the late George Raymond Lord Sr. and the late Orian Catherine Brown Lord. He was a graduate of the Harrison High School in 1954 and the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville TN. Mr. Lord worked as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 35 years at the Mayo-Lord Funeral Home where he was the owner and operator. He also owned and operated Jimmy Lord Memorials. Mr. Lord served as the Coroner of Washington County from 1968 until he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1976 where he served consecutively for 32 years until his retirement in 2008. While serving in the House of Representatives, Mr. Lord served on numerous committees including the Agriculture, Natural Resources, Transportation, State Institute Properties committees as well as Chairman of the Defense and Veterans committee, Chairman of the Insurance Committee, and also the Rules, Operation, Regulated Industries and Health and Ecology Committees. He was also the owner of Jimmy Lord Insurance from 1997 to 2014. As a legislator, Mr. Lord was instrumental to the success of Washington County and the house district in which he served. He was a former member of the Sandersville Lions Club and the Hamilton Masonic Lodge. His former wife Fronie McCoy Lord and his sister Betty L. Smith both predecease Mr. Lord.

Survivors include; his wife, Florence McDaniel Johnson Lord of Sandersville; daughters, Kathy Lord Carlson and her husband Larry of Sandersville, and Rhonda Lord Nobles and her husband Todd of Maclenny FL; step children, Glenn Johnson and his wife Martha of Davisboro, Terrie Johnson Veal and her husband Chris of Sandersville, Elizabeth Johnson Bishop and her husband Louis, Renea Johnson and Samantha Johnson Carter and her husband Andy all of Davisboro; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his brother, G.R. Lord Jr. and his wife Rosalyn of Sandersville; and his loving care givers, Joyce Dixon and Brenda Hurst.

The family will be at the Lord residence on Lee Street in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
