Mr. Jimmy Kendall Smith, age 74, of Riddleville, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, following a brief illness.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Riddleville Baptist Church, with burial in the Riddleville Cemetery.  Reverend Allen Wiggins, Reverend Wade Dawson and Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Mr. Smith's nephews will serve as pallbearers, and deacons of Riddleville Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20th beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service, at the church.

Jimmy was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, living all his life in Riddleville, with the exception of his time in the Army.  He graduated from Washington County High School and joined the US Army, where he served his country as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division and later as a Green Beret.  Jimmy returned home and began working with his father as a general contractor.  He attended college at night, obtaining an associate degree from Middle Georgia College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Georgia Southern University.  Following college, he began a career in law enforcement with the Sandersville Police Department, later worked as an investigator with the Washington County Sherriff's Department, while continuing his work as a general contractor.  He was a longtime member of Riddleville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was active in the Gideons and had held various leadership positions in the organization. Jimmy loved fishing, hunting and grilling, but loved spending time with his family most of all. Jimmy is predeceased by his parents, Donald K. and Dorothy Johnson Smith; siblings, Donnie Smith and Patsy Diane Smith and brother-in-law, Tommy Thompson.

Survivors are his loving wife of 57 years, Carol Moats Smith; children, Pamela Smith and Christopher K. Smith and his wife Donna all of Riddleville; grandchildren, Tristan K. Smith and his wife Nicole of Vidalia and Kirstan Smith of Augusta; siblings, Barbara Bailey of Milledgeville, Linda Lindsey and David Alexander of Riddleville, Dot Bailey and her husband William of Rentz, and Eileen Moncus of Riddleville; sister-in-law, Glynda Thompson of Sandersville; brother-in-law, Harold Moats and his wife Jeni of Tennille; and his faithful companions, Molly, Reba and Dolly.
