J.M. "Jim" Hilson

Mr. J. M. “Jim” Hilson, age 82, of 507 Smith Street in Tennille passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday October 4th in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Charlie Reese will officiate assisted by the Rev. Patrick Wilson. Pallbearers will be Garry London, Timothy London, Ladarrius Jackson, Otis Bryant, Vince Brown and Willie London. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Earnest Wimbley, George Stephens, Henry Watts and James Hooks.

Mr. Hilson was a native of Washington County, Georgia, the son of the late Odell White and the late Ossie Mae Hilson. He retired from Thiele Kaolin Company with thirty eight years of service. Mr. Hilson was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Hilson loved gospel music and was a former member of the Golden Travelers Quartet.

Survivors are his wife, Helen Brooks Hilson of Tennille and to this union of sixty two years there were three children, James Melvin Hilson of Newark, NJ and Gwen Sue Hilson of Tennille and a deceased son, James Edward Hilson. Mr. Hilson had two sisters, Loueella Brooks of Valley Lee, Maryland and Wynonia Duggan of Sandersville, eleven grandchildren, Mankwasi Hilson, Jah Hilson, Aisha McCallum, Karema McCallum, Wanda Brinson, Brandi Townsend, Kuadir Hilson Huff, Mumina Hilson, Muhammad Hilson, Takisha Dower and Bruce Lee Woods, a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday October 3rd.
