Joe Jernigan Garrett

November 23, 1937 — July 13, 2013

Mr. Joe Jernigan Garrett, age 75, of 1723 Riddleville-Mt. Moriah Road in Riddleville died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Tuesday, July 16th, in the Riddleville Baptist Church with burial in the Riddleville Cemetery. Reverend Daniel Porter and Reverend Wade Dawson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Charlie Lindsey, Jimmy Smith, Richard Jackson, Craig Walker, Allen Garrett,Jay Garrett, Billy Brantley and William Josey.

Mr. Garrett was a native of Washington County, Georgia the son of the late Julian Eugene Garrett and Mamie Lou Jernigan Garrett. He was a graduate of Georgia State University. Mr. Garrett lived for many years in Atlanta and enjoyed a career in banking. He retired to his home in Riddleville in 1998. Mr. Garrett was a retired vice president from Wachovia Bank. He was a member of Gideon’s International and an active member and Deacon of the Riddleville Baptist Church. Mr. Garrett served in the United States Army Reserves.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Peek Garrett of Riddleville; a son, Matt Garrett and his wife Brenda of Savannah; two daughters, Lisa Garrett Laube and her husband Billy of Atlanta, and Melanie Garrett Kay and her husband Edward of London England.

The family suggests donations be made to the Riddleville Baptist Church, 9500 Highway 242, Harrison, Georgia 31035.

The family will greet friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
