John Melson Grice Sr.

December 21, 1939 — May 28, 2020

Mr. John Melson Grice, Sr., age 80, of Sandersville, died on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 2:00 P.M. in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille following social distancing practices. Reverend Brian Welch will officiate.

Friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in numbers of ten or less at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Mr. Grice was a native of Richmond County, the son of the late Melson Grice and the late Bennie Claude Pittman Grice. He had resided in Washington County most of his life and was a graduate of the Sandersville High School Class of 1958. Mr. Grice was a retired maintenance superintendent for Imerys Kaolin Company. He was a Deacon and member of Tennille Baptist Church. Mr. Grice was an avid NASCAR fan. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Benjamin Grice.

Survivors are his wife, Shelby Hodges Grice of Sandersville; sons, John M. Grice, Jr. and his wife Penny of Sandersville and Brad M. Grice and his wife Brandy of Hepzibah; grandchildren, Brittney Grice Lord and her husband Jacob, John Elliott Grice, Will Yarbrough and Kyle Yarbrough; great grandchildren, William Hoke Lord and John Haze Lord.

The family suggests donations be made to Tennille Baptist Church, P.O. Box 402, Tennille, Ga 31089.
