Mr. John Dean McCaskill, Sr., age 85, of Sandersville died on Saturday, August 7, 2021, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 10 at Sandersville United Methodist Church in Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Stan Littleton will officiate.
Mr. McCaskill was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Ernest Bernard McCaskill and the late Emmalene Garner McCaskill. He was a graduate of Sandersville High School. Mr. McCaskill was a retired District Traffic Engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He worked for the Baldwin County Commissioners Public Works Department for some years. Mr. McCaskill retired as a First Sergeant from the Georgia National Guard with thirty-eight years of service in the 48 th Brigade. He was called up for active duty in both the Berlin Crisis and Desert Storm. He previously served on the City of Sandersville Planning and Zoning Committee.
Dean enjoyed his morning breakfast club at Wendy’s, his Wednesday boy’s night out and Friday night supper club. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and also loved building and working with his hands. One of his greatest joys was his love for his family and country. He was an active member of Sandersville United Methodist Church for many years where he participated in numerous mission trips.
Survivors are his wife of thirty two years, Yvonne Maddox McCaskill of Sandersville; two sons, John Dean McCaskill, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Tifton and Carey McCaskill and his wife Laurie of Sandersville; five grandchildren, Lynsie Faye McCaskill, Emily Katherine McCaskill Carver and her husband Tyler, Samuel Dean McCaskill, Jordan Scott McCaskill and Elijah John McCaskill; great grandson, John Parker Carver; three sisters, Evelyn McCaskill Moats of Sandersville, Ivelyn McCaskill Moye and her husband Kenny of Ormond Beach FL, and Linda McCaskill Durden of Sandersville; mother-in-law, Zelma Maddox of Sandersville, and several nieces & nephews.
The family will greet friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday.
