Johnnie Lester Jackson

December 13, 1923 — June 10, 2008

Mr. Johnnie Lester Jackson, age 84, of 210 South Fourth Street in Tennille died Tuesday morning June 10. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday morning June 12 in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. The Rev. J. Emory Lindsey and the Rev. M.D. Cabe will officiate.

Mr. Jackson was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the son of the late Hines B. Jackson and the late Estelle May Jackson. He was a retired truck driver for Roadway Truck Lines and Howard Sheppard, Inc. He served as a police officier for the Wrightsville Police Department, the Tennille Police Department and as Chief of Sandersville Police Department. Mr. Jackson was an Air Force Veteran of World War II and a member of the Tennille Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Mertz Jackson of Tennille, his children, Ellis (Jan) Douglas of Harrison, Joanna (Thomas) Blount of Wrightsville and Julie (Rex) Brantley of Harrison, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters, Rosa Harrel of Dexter, May Josey of Milledgeville and Estelle Layfield of Milledgeville, two brothers, Bernard Jackson of Conyers and Kenneth Jackson of Davisboro and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggest that donations be made to United Hospice of Swainsboro, 667 South Main Street, Swainsboro, Ga. 30401.
May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
