Johnny Charles Ellis, age 57, of Hwy. 68 South, in Tennille, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the University Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00am at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Jerry Lanier will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mandel Waters, Jamie McCoy, Joey Ellis, Ricky Ellis Jr., Don Barton, C.W. Brantley, Russell Denton, Junior Yates, and Brian West.
Mr. Ellis was born in Washington County the son of the late James Coleman Ellis. He was a life long resident of Tennille where he graduated from Tennille High School. Johnny was a former employee of Anglo American Clays and Imerys where he worked in Maintenance. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a lover of military history.
Survivors are his wife Gail Ellis and his mother Reba Brown both of Tennille, stepchildren, Shelby Wood of Deepstep, and Melissa Tanner (Ralph) of Sandersville, step grandchildren, Erica Tanner, Lindsey Tanner, and Jessi Wood, sisters, Faye West (Tommy) and Janie Brantley both of Sandersville, and brothers, Frankie Ellis (Lattrell) of Rome and Ricky Ellis (Verba) of Gray.
The family will be at the Ellis residence 1690 Hwy. 68 South in Tennille and they will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
May and Smith Funeral Directors is in charge of these arrangements.
