Joseph "Joe" Lamar Smith

Mr. Joseph Lamar “Joe” Smith, age 72, of Sandersville, died Thursday, April 26, 2018.   A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28 th at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens.  Reverend Lamar Brantley, Reverend Mike Smith and Reverend Myron Wise will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Henry Armour, Jeremy Lindsey, Ricky Poole, Curtis Smith and Austin Robbins.

Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Raymond Sampson Smith, Sr. and the late  Martha Elizabeth Pittman Smith.  He formerly worked for Pet Milk and the Frito Lay Company prior to creating Joe Smith Services, a janitorial company in which he and his wife Carolyn owned and operated for many years.  In retirement, Joe was the owner of Rocket Joe’s Pawn Shop.  He was a member of Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene.   Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing on Lake Sinclair and was an avid pilot and loved to travel.  Joe is predeceased by his son, Joseph Sampson “Joey” Smith and brother, Raymond Sampson Smith, Jr.

Survivors are his wife, Carolyn Fennell Smith; children, Reverend Michael Lamar Smith and his wife Paula of Dexter and Wendy Smith Pettit and her husband Jeff of Sandersville; grandchildren, Trae Lamar Smith and his wife Kayann, Tyler Garner Waters-Smith and his wife Mary Elizabeth, Anna Elizabeth Smith, Jordan Alyssa Pettit, Elijah Anderson Smith, Abbey Alexandra Pettit, Mia Grace Pettit, Maggie Caralee Smith and Sarah Kate Smith; and his brother, James Benjamin Smith and his wife Mary Esther of Haddock.

The family will be at the Smith residence on Bonnell Circle and they will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA. 30909.
