Joseph Wayne Matthews, Jr.

Mr. Joseph Wayne "Bo" Matthews Jr., age 56, of Tennille, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 2, 2023.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, June 14th at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel.  Reverend Danny Yates will officiate.  Bo's family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Bo was born in Washington County and reared in the Atlanta area prior to returning to Tennille as a teenager.  He began planting pine trees as a youth.  Later, Bo worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation before working for Lanthrip Construction, his current employer. Being at the river, fishing and listening to music were some of his favorite activities. Bo always enjoyed gardening and sharing that with all his family and friends.  He his predeceased by his father, Joseph Wayne Matthews Sr.

Bo is survived by his wife, Rhonda Edwards Matthews, children, Jessica Oquinn and her husband Terry, Anna Adams and her husband Aaron and Zachery Matthews; mother, Annette Harrell Venable; grandchildren, Brodie Tarr, Link Tarr, Kadie Oquinn, Matthew Adams, Levon Adams, Georgia Rain Matthews, Kai Allman Crismond, Elizabeth Hodges, Eli Matthews, Ila Matthews, Harley Grace, and Waylon Luke and siblings, Jeffrey Venable, Jeremy Venable and Joshua Venable: Sister in Law, Sharon (Sissy) Lee and her husband John and Brother in Law, Jerry Edwards and his wife Misty.
