Joseph Albert Norris

March 19, 1945 — June 18, 2017

Mr. Joseph Albert Norris, age 72, of Wrightsville, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 21 st at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Wrightsville with burial in Westview Cemetery.  Reverend Kirk Hagan and Reverend Randy Adams will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Jeffery Cramer, Ben Jackson, Brian Jackson, Kirk Dent, Alex Norris, and Walt Bryan.   Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bryan, Jimmy Cook, Waylon Hitchcock, Willis Hartley, Ware Evans, Dwain Sammons and Jimmy Glover.

Mr. Norris was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson County, the son of the late Richard Floy Norris and the late Ruby Nell Blizzard Norris.  He was a 1963 graduate of Wrightsville High School and a lifelong farmer.  His greatest joy came from working on the family farm in Buckeye, fishing on the Ogeechee, playing with his grandchildren and helping others. Joe formerly worked for Meeks Tractor Company as service manager and retired as the Agency Manager of Washington County Farm Bureau.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wrightsville.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Dilcher Norris of Wrightsville, children, Joseph Allen Norris and his wife Anita of Cumming, John Michael Norris and his wife Jenny of Wrightsville, David Keith Norris and his wife Loresa of Gray, Sherrie Joelle Norris Thompson and her husband Mark of Cumming, Emory Hodges Rowland, Jr. and his wife Suzana of Marietta, David Gregory “Greg” Rowland and his wife Christa of Evans, and Charles Stanford “Stan” Rowland and his wife Annette of Gray, grandchildren, Courtney Norris Clanton and her husband Travis, Alex Norris, Lillie Norris, Emily Norris, Anna Claire Norris, McKinley Norris, Ansley Rowland, Ashlyn Rowland, Zachary Rowland and Will Rowland, great grandchild, Tucker Clanton and siblings, John Richard Norris of Warner Robins, Patsy N. Palmer and her husband Alan of East Dublin and Judy F. Norris of Wrightsville.

The family will be at the Norris residence on West Elm Street in Wrightsville and will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 2607 Commons Blvd. Augusta, GA. 30909 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
