Mrs. Joyce Cox Hodges, age 88, of South Brown Street in Oconee, passed away on April 29, 2022 at Oak Leaf Village, in Lexington, SC. A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Oconee. Reverend Tom Howard will officiate.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Central, SC, the daughter of the late Joseph Carl Cox, and the late Claudine Ellen Jenkins Cox. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and worked for a time as a middle school teacher. Mrs. Hodges was the wife of the late Lucien Eugene “Bud” Hodges. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and tennis. She was a social butterfly, an avid reader, and spent her later years involved in a local “bridge club.” Mrs. Hodges was a loving and dutiful wife, as well as a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Oconee. In addition to her parents and husband, she is proceeded in death by her children, Lucien David Hodges, and Mary Ellen Hodges.
Mrs. Hodges is survived by her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hodges and her husband Travis Stover of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughter, Natalee Stover; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service on Monday at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive, Suite A, Evans, GA 30809 or Shriners Hospital, 2900 Rocky Pointe Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
