Mrs. Juanita Stephens Holton, age 89, of Sparta, died Friday, September 6, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sparta Baptist Church with burial in the Sparta City Cemetery. Reverend Alan McCoy and Reverend Jerry Bradley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tommy Foster, Tom Roberts, Tommy Brooks, Mike Stephens, Tracy Stephens, John Allen Chapman, Gene Atkins, Stephen Roberts, Hugh Walton and Jimmy Walton.
Mrs. Holton was born in Vienna Georgia the daughter of the late Arthur Jacobus Stephens and the late Hattie Aultman Stephens. She formerly worked with her husband at their family owned business Holton’s Radio and Electric in Vidalia. Mrs. Holton also worked as the dietician for the Sparta High School. She was a licensed practical nurse working for the Elbert County Hospital, as well as, a physician office nurse while living in Elberton. In retirement in Sparta, Mrs. Holton served as the Secretary for the Sparta Baptist Church of which she was a member and she was affectionately known as the “cake lady” because of her love of baking cakes. She is predeceased by her husband James William Holton and her brother Harold Stephens.
Survivors are her children, Jimmy D. Holton and his wife Rebecca of Sparta, JoAnne H. Clark of Sparta and Greer H. Thomason and her husband David of Anderson, IN; grandchildren, Leanne H. Brown and her husband Scott of Sparta, Heather H. Kennedy of Milledgeville, Donald A. Clark of Newnan, Kimberly T. Pike and her husband Chad of Fishers, IN and Keri T. Hacker of Indianapolis, IN; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brothers, James Stephens of Warner Robins and Jack Stephens of Pinehurst.
The family will be at the Holton residence on Fairmont Road in Sparta and they will receive friends on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sparta Baptist Church.
