Judy Colson, beloved mom, Nana, sister, teacher, and friend, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on May 9, 2025, in Smyrna, Tennessee, at the age of 79.
She was born on January 6, 1946, in Homestead, Florida. Judy had a deep passion for teaching and a true gift for connecting with young people, which led her to pursue her teaching degree later in life—an achievement that made her family incredibly proud. She received her BS of Education at Georgia College, then earned a Master of Education from Trevecca Nazarene University. She spent most of her teaching career at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Antioch, TN, where she touched countless lives with her knowledge, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Judy’s life was anchored in her relationship with Christ. She faithfully served in ministry at Sandersville Church of the Nazarene, using her gifts in music and service to glorify God and bless others. Her love for the Lord shaped every part of her life—from the way she raised her children to how she taught, prayed, and lived with purpose and grace. She continued living out her faith in the Nashville area, where she moved later in life to be closer to her children.
She was the proud mom of Brenda (Patrick) Bonner, Dennis (KaLin) Boyd, Cathy (Luis) Del Rio, and Veronica (Brooks) Whitlow. Her grandkids—Eyan, Kaden, Landen, Eva, Sai, Vin, Rosie, Caroline, and Nora—were her pride and joy. She delighted in sharing her love for Jesus with them and modeled a life of prayer, praise, and unconditional love.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Otis Carroll and Catherine Grace Bonar Carroll, and by her siblings Gerald Carroll, Calvin Carroll, Roy "Bo" Carroll, and Margaret Noble. She is survived by her sisters and brothers: Gloria Burnett, Janet Clayton, Frank (Mettina) Carroll, Helen Woods, and Vicki Duggan (Ronnie), along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Judy’s legacy is one of faith, kindness, and strength. She had a gentle spirit, a warm laugh, and a heart that reflected the love of Christ. She leaves behind a family rooted in faith, and a life that pointed others to God’s goodness.
The family will have a graveside memorial service on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.
