J.W. Mccoy

Mr. J.W. McCoy, age 90 of Donovan Harrison Road, Wrightsville, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of May and Smith Funeral Home with burial following in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville. Reverend Dr. Tom Akins will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. McCoy was born in Sandersville, the son of the late Robert Lawrence McCoy and the late Flara Bell Johnson McCoy. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. J.W. spent his working career as a diesel mechanic for Engelhard, a job he held for 38 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a carpenter and master welder. J.W. was also a good dancer and was swift on his feet. He enjoyed taking cruises and spending time with family. He was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, J.W. is proceeded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ann Pulliam McCoy; children, Elvis Edison McCoy and Della Sue Pinion; and sisters, Fronie Lord, Johnnie Dominy, and Polly Kitchens.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his children, Danny James McCoy and his wife Regina of Wilkesboro, NC, Steven McCoy and his wife Michelle of Milledgeville, Randy Joe McCoy of Sandersville, Amanda Sullens and her husband Tony of Kite, and Joshua Lawrence McCoy of Dublin; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; siblings, Robert McCoy, Evelyn Mathis, and Connie Holtapp, all of Sandersville; and many nieces and nephews.
