Lamar Allen Everett

November 20, 1934 — March 10, 2024

Mr. Lamar Allen Everett, age 89 of West Church Street in Sandersville, died peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024, following an extended illness.  A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Deepstep Methodist Church Wednesday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Church Cemetery.  Reverend Paul Harris, Reverend Larry Giles and Mr. Scott Mathews will officiate.  Serving as pallbearers will be Stacey Everett, Keith Everett, Adrian Ashley, Julian Archer, Howard Veal, Johnathan Dawson, Robbie Roberson and Wayne Norris.  Members of the Deepstep Methodist Men's Club will sit as honorary pallbearers.  The Everett family will greet friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Mr. Everett was born and reared in Deepstep, the son of the late Roy Bernard Everett Sr. and the late Mary Frances Giles Everett.  He graduated from Sandersville High School where he excelled in basketball.  He began his working career with his father in construction, working with David Avant Construction and later worked as a machine mechanic for Royal Manufacturing Company.  Next, Lamar began a 41-year career with Atlanta Gas Light Company where he retired in 1995.  Lamar served his country in the Georgia National Guard.  He along with his late brother Ostell, operated a swine operation and tended to five hundred acres of land to support it.  He was a longtime and active member of Deepstep Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men's Group and formerly sang in the choir.  He loved handing out chewing gum to all the children at church.  Lamar and his family were avid Brentwood School supporters formerly serving on its board and proudly one of many who helped establish the school. He cherished his family and loved following children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to each of their school events. Lamar enjoyed cooking and was known for his Brunswick stew which he gladly distributed to family and friends. He was an excellent fisherman and was often seen fishing with good friends.  He loved to prank or joke with people.  His caring nature followed him to Heritage Inn where he was often seen helping a friend.  Mr. Everett is predeceased by his siblings, Roy Everett Jr., Ostell Everett, Lester Everett, and Corilla Weaver, son-in-law, Phil Veal, daughter-in-law, Shannon Everett and great granddaughter, Gracelyn Everett English.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Joan Frost Everett; children, Rhonda E. Veal and Allen Lamar Everett and his wife Denise all of Tennille; grandchildren, Tetra V. Jenkins and her husband Chris, Micole V. English and her husband Jay, Kena V. Lindsey and her husband Steven, Faran V. Tanner and her husband Will, Seth Everett, Colton Everett, Alyssa Everett, Chase Everett, and Caleb Everett; great grandchildren, Brianna Francis, Cameran Francis, Cordy Francis, Logan Jenkins, Cadence English, Hart Selby, Ryder Tanner, Brinley Tanner, Lexi Tanner, Hayden Everett, Harlee Everett, Hunter Everett and Zane Everett; great great granddaughter, Oaklyn Chandler; sister, Ethel Ashley and her husband Donald; and sisters-in-law, Eva Dell Everett and Betty Everett.
