Mrs. Lanette Garrett, age 90, of Sandersville died Monday August 3 in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 5 in the Sisters Baptist Church in Sandersville. The Rev. Otis Andrews and Rev. Bert Parker will officiate with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Pallbearers will be Gary Anderson, John Swint, Arthur Nyman, Gene Broxton, Earl Trussell, and George Robinson.
Mrs. Garrett was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Machen Rachels and the late Bertha Walker Rachels. She was the wife of the late Harvey Malone Garrett. Mrs. Garrett was retired from Southern Bell and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was formerly employed in the post office of the Georgia House of Representatives. Mrs. Garrett taught Bible classes for the Milledgeville State Hospital and the Youth Development Center. She was a former state director for the Girls Auxiliary of the Georgia Baptist Association and a member of the Womens Missionary Union. She was a former pink lady for the Extended Care Facility and Heritage Inn. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sadie Swint and Mildred Layton.
Survivors are a daughter, Janelle Garrett (Tom) Newsome of Raleigh, NC, a son, Machen (Elizabeth) Garrett of Tennille, two sisters, Verina R. Nyman of Morrow and Helen R. Robinson of Sandersville, five grandchildren, Davy (Nicki) Garrett, Amie Newsome, Jamie Newsome, Katie Newsome and Lee Newsome, two great grandchildren, Estelle Garrett and London Kelly.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening.
