Lavin Hodges Hutchings

December 1, 1932 — November 4, 2013

Mrs. Lavin Hodges Hutchings, age 80, of Deepstep died Monday, November 4, 2013, in an Augusta hospital following a brief illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 7th, in the Deepstep United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Reverend Rick Holt will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Mrs. Hutchings was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Clifford Christopher Hodges and the late Estelle Giles Hodges. She was the wife of the late William Alonzo Hutchings, Sr. She was a graduate of Sandersville High School Class of 1949. Mrs. Hutchings was a homemaker. She was a former bookkeeper for Miller’s Food Store and a former owner of Hutchings Grocery in Deepstep. Mrs. Hutchings was a member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church, the Laura Hall Circle and a former member of the Deepstep Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Dot Wiggins, Nina Nesbitt and Betty Trussell; and her two brothers, Clifford Hodges and Buddy Hodges.

Survivors are her children, William A. Hutchings, Jr. and his wife June of Deepstep, Karen Hutchings Schaffer of Deepstep, Christopher G. Hutchings and his wife Carla of Sandersville and Daryl N. Hutchings and his wife Beth of Sandersville; eight grandchildren, Andrew C. Hutchings, Jarrod Hutchings, Justin N. Hutchings, Stephen G. Hutchings, Joshua R. Hutchings, Michael C. Hutchings, Eli J. Hutchings and Grace Hohnadel.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

The family suggests donations be made to the Deepstep United Methodist Church.
