Mr. Larry Buchanan, age 90 of Sandersville, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Addington Place in Dublin, following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sandersville First Baptist Church, with burial following in Riddleville Cemetery with full military honors. Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate, and Mr. Buchanan’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
Mr. Buchanan was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the son of the late John Anthony Buchanan and the late Etta Fitzgerald Staples. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his retirement he worked as an engineer with Bellsouth. Mr. Buchanan enjoyed collecting coins, taking walks, and researching genealogy. His greatest joy in life was teaching and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His life could be summed up by the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Mr. Buchanan served the Lord faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, church deacon, and in benevolent ministries. He was a member of Sandersville First Baptist Church.
Mr. Buchanan is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Jean Buchanan; daughters, Cella Cox (Stephen) of Dublin, and Susan Buchanan of Sandersville; son, Andy Buchanan (Cindy) of Hartwell; Grandchildren, Stephanie Gollogly (Calvin), Taga Haynie (Lamar), John Mark Cox (Jaycie), Paul Cox (Hadiya), Luke Cox, Kori Barrentine (Josh), Adam Buchanan (Katie); Emily Buchanan (Daniel D’Ambra), John Buchanan (Amanda), and Lars Buchanan; great grandchildren, Astrud Haynie, and Macy Marx; and sisters, Beverly Ann Beane, and Marjorie Buchanan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Buchanan’s memory to Sandersville First Baptist Church at 316 Mathis Circle, Sandersville, GA 31082.
