Mr. Lee Roy Brantley, age, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Larry Orr, Reverend Milton Wood and Dr. Frank Hutcheson will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Buck, Travis Christopher, Brian Buck, Troy Brantley, Blake Hall, Clint Hall, and John Cannon.
Mr. Brantley was a native and longtime resident of Washington County, the son of the late Roy Brantley and the late Mable Phillips Brantley. He graduated from Sandersville High School and joined the Air Force where he obtained the rank of Airman 2nd class and worked as a medical laboratory assistant. He retired from Georgia Kaolin in 1994 as assistant Human Resource Manager. Mr. Brantley was an active member of Sisters Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon and as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a former member of the Sandersville Civitan Club and served as an officer and board member and was chosen as "Civitan of the Year" in 1979. Mr. Brantley was also active with the Washington County Blood Bank, the American Red Cross and Washington County Unit of the American Cancer Society. In 1978, Mr. Brantley was recognized as "Washington County Citizen of the Year" by the Sandersville Rotary Club and in 1979 he was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Washington County Jaycees. In retirement, Lee Roy and Margaret were active with the Unicoi Springs Camp Resort where Lee Roy served on the Board of Directors, as Activities Director and as the Chairman of the Unicoi Springs Chapel Committee. He is also predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Brantley.
Survivors include: wife, Margaret Ivey Brantley; children, Debbie Buck and her husband Holt, Karen Christopher and her husband Jimmy of Savannah. Lee Brantley and his wife Penny of Gordon; grandchildren, Gail Hall and her husband Clint of Deepstep, Dustin Buck, Travis Christopher and his wife Ashley of Savannah, Katherine Cannon and her husband John of Perry, Brian Buck of Savannah, and Troy Brantley of Perry; great grandchildren, Rachel and Blake Hall of Deepstep, Amelia and Landon Christopher of Savannah, Ella and Grace Cannon of Perry; siblings, Annette McEachin of Swainsboro, Rosalind Veal of Tennille, Alfred Brantley and his wife Patsy of Warthen, J.M. Brantley of Metter, Katherine Adams of Sandersville, Louise Hutcheson and her husband Frank of Milledgeville, Lester Brantley of Sandersville, Charlene Goss of Richmond Hill, Linda Helton and her husband Bernard of Warthen, and Howard Brantley and his wife Susan of Sandersville.
The family will be at the Hall residence on 230 Two Sons Rd, Deepstep. They will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.m. on Saturday.
