Leila Pope Smith

March 21, 1934 — January 10, 2013

Mrs. Leila Pope Smith, age 78, of Sandersville, departed this life Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Rev. L.T. Logue and Rev. Phil Bray will officiate. Pallbearers will be Timothy Kent, Blake Moye, Lindsey Smith, Bobby Lee Grady, Roy Kirkland, Kelly Kirkland, Tracy Matthews and Danny Thomas.

Mrs. Smith was born in Laurens County the daughter of the late Gailor Esry Pope and the late Lillie Bell Pullen Pope. She was dedicated to both her work and her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children and her grandchildren. She was a long time active member of the Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU, a faithful nursery worker and a former teacher in the Sunbeams children’s program. Mrs. Smith was known for her loving benevolence and her constant caring for others in their time of need. She is predeceased by her husbands Ralph Elijah Hartley and Lindsey Odell Smith, Sr.

Survivors are: her children, Annie Hartley, Lynn Moye and her husband Eddie and Lindsey Odell Smith, Jr. “Dell” all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Timothy Paul Kent of Oklahoma City OK, Nicole Lynn Moye of Milledgeville, Blake Hartley Moye of Macon, Lindsey Odell Smith III of Sandersville; a great- granddaughter Jade Alaina Smith; her brother, Milton Pope and his wife Geneva of Deland, FL; her sister-in-law Janet Pope of St. Augustine, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the residence of Lynn and Eddie Moye located at 812 Evergreen Drive in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for all of the love, care and dedication received from the staff of the Washington County Extended Care Facility.
