Mrs. Leonnell Tharpe Scarboro, age 88 of Harrison passed away at her residence on Thursday, July 11, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., Harrison Baptist Church, with Reverend Larry Sprouse officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scarboro was born in Wrightsville, the daughter of the late Leon Tharpe and the late Orilla Webb Tharpe. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School, a member of the first 12th grade graduating class. Mrs. Scarboro enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles. She also tried her best to keep her yards maintained, especially her confederate rose bush. Her greatest passion was her family and she always made sure the family celebrated every holiday at her house. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Joe Scarboro; her son, John Gregg Scarboro; and siblings, Hulon Tharpe, and Elaine Tingle.
Mrs. Scarboro is survived by her children, Vickie McCoy (W.D.) of Wrightsville; Craig Scarboro (Barbara) of Harrison, and Joe Scarboro, Jr. of Atlanta; grandchildren, Nerina Wood (Jay), Aaron McCoy, Marisa Guerrero (Adan), Kaitlyn Scarboro, Brian Martin (Johnna), Tyler Scarboro, and Cole Scarboro; great grandchildren, Maci Wood, Ryland McCoy (Ashley), Karter Wood, Blythe McCoy, Talon McCoy, Austin Vinklarek, Andrew Guerrero, Addison Guerrero, Gregory Scarboro, Lincoln Shumaker, Lane Wood, and Owen Wood; sister-in-law, Patcene Tharpe, of Centerville; and brother-in-law, Carlton Tingle, of Sandersville.
