On Sunday, October 8, 2017, Mrs. Lily Ruth Bright Johnson departed this earth from Wrightsville, Georgia, to join her family in heaven following an extended stay in Wrightsville Manor Nursing Home.
Ruth was born July 8, 1927, in Dale County, Alabama, the penultimate child of James Bascom “Buck” Bright and Susan Stella Newton Bright. She was a long time resident of Severna Park, Maryland, where she and her husband raised their family and she worked for the State of Maryland as a data entry technician. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong Episcopalian and relished at watching her son enter its priesthood. She retired to her childhood home in Midland City, Alabama, where she attended the Church of the Nativity in Dothan, AL and volunteered as a Candy Striper with the Hospital Auxiliary. Proceeding her in death are Herbert Charles Johnson, husband of 48 years; son, Reverend Doctor James Arthur Johnson; daughter , Barbara Jean Johnson Eiland; sisters, Ellie Mae Bright, Melonae Marshall Bullington, Angeline Madelyne Williams, Fay Dean Nelson, Sadie Agnes Power; and brother, James Thomas “Tom” Bright.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Michelle Haynes of Lakeland, FL; daughter-in-law, Betty Jean Johnson of Tennille, GA.; granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Wilburn of Oak Park, CA; grandson, Jacob Nathaniel Johnson of Tennille, GA., grandson, Brody Ryan Haynes of Lakeland, FL; great grandchildren, Sarah Michelle and Hope Anne Wilburn of Oak Park, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Midland City Cemetery in Midland City, Alabama at a later date.
