Lizzie Mae Downs

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Downs, age 96, of Davisboro, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Heritage Inn Nursing Home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00pm at the Davisboro United Methodist Church with burial in the Downs Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bob Williams, Rev. Ron Dixon and Rev. Jimmy Harris will officiate. Pallbearers will be Harry Gilmore Jr., Mike McCoy, J. W. Cobb, Douglas Welch, Marty Deal and Robert Harrell.

Mrs. Downs was born in Washington County the daughter of the late Bradford A. Lord and the late Eva Hodges Lord. She was the former owner and operator of the Downs Grocery in Davisboro and she was a former employee of the Royal Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Downs was a loyal member of the Davisboro United Methodist Church and she is predeceased by her husband W. T. Downs Jr. and nephews, Bennie Frank Brown and Ernest Brown.

Survivors are; her sister Ruth L. Brown of Sandersville, and nieces and nephews, Fred Brown of Cordele, Glenda Mallard of Martinez, Marynell Wright of Evans, H.T. Downs Sr. and Mae Black both of Mitchell.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
