Mrs. Wilma Lois Smith Johnson, age 77 of Mitchell passed away on Saturday at her residence. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Mitchell with burial following in the church cemetery. Reverend Philip Nichols and Reverend James King will officiate. Pallbearers will be Andrew Griswell, Jeremy Griswell, Mitchell Parsons, Matthew Parsons, Wayne Johnson, and Danny Blume. The Deacons of Friendship Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Washington County but lived most of her life in Glascock County. She is the daughter of the late Floyd Wright Smith, Sr. and the late Mary Magdelene Sammons Smith. Mrs. Johnson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She possessed the sweetest spirit and loved her family immensely.
At the age of 16 she married her husband of 61 years, Billy K. Johnson. She was devoted wife and worked to support her family. Mrs. Johnson was a seamstress for Stapleton Garment Company and also worked at Healthtex in Warrenton for 22 years. After her employment in Warrenton ended, she went back to school and earned her business degree from Sandersville Tech. Her final job was working as bookkeeper from Avant Salvage, where she retired. Mrs. Johnson was a long-time faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, a place that she loved very much. She was an excellent cook and had many requests for her banana pudding and pecan pie.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Wright Smith, Jr., John R. Smith, Frankie Smith, Jimmy Smith; and sisters, Sally Bragg, Rosa Smith, Annie Smith, Nellie Ruth, Martha Jean Stubbs, and Louise Bridges.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Billy Johnson; her two children, Mark Johnson and Belinda Blume (Danny); grandchildren, Nicholas, Katelyn, and Jacob Salisbury; brother, Louis Smith (Kay); brother-in-law, Steve Johnson (Susan) and Stan Johnson (Louise); and several nieces and nephews.
