Mrs. Lois Waller Smith, age 99, died Monday, March 14, 2011 in the Washington County Regional Medical Center, Extended Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17, in the Chapel of May and Smith Funeral Directors with interment in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. The Rev. William C. Moody will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Waller, Roy Etheridge, Bobby Strickland, Shea Helton, Clyde Bland, and Joe Barron. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sandersville Lion's Club.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Pringle, Georgia the daughter of the late John William Waller and the late Daisy Wilson Waller. She was a member of the Tennille Christian Church where she served as pianist and organist for over 50 years. Mrs. Smith was chosen Tennille Woman of the Year by the Tennille Rotary Club and Tennille Women’s Club in 1994. “Miss” Lois was the pianist for the Sandersville Lions Club for so many years that they made her a member, and in 2005 presented her with the Melvin Jones Fellow award on behalf of the Lions Club International Foundation. She was a member of the Tennille Women’s Club; The Fine Arts Club; the Washington County Historical Society; and a former member of the Tennille Garden Club. Mrs. Smith graduated from Tennille High School and attended the Georgia State College for Women. She retired from the Geo. D. Warthen Bank, in 1975, after 18 years of service. She was predeceased by her husband, James Edwin “Snooks” Smith.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and a number of devoted friends.
The family will greet friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at May & Smith Funeral Home, 1119 Riddleville Road, Sandersville, Ga.
