Mr. Robert Loring Boatright Sr., age 74, of Deepstep, died Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness. A family only graveside funeral service will be held at Deepstep United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Loring was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Bennie Frank Boatright and the late Ida Frances Hall Garbutt. He was a 1963 graduate of Washington County High School and a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Loring, along with his wife Jenny, were longtime residents of Douglasville where Loring worked for Georgia Power. He was active as a little league coach, volunteer and supporter when his children were young. After retiring from Georgia Power, Loring returned to his home in Deepstep and worked for Thiele Kaolin Company. He was a member of Deepstep United Methodist Church and participated in the United Methodist Men’s Group. Loring was a regular at the McDonald’s coffee club and enjoyed doing carpentry work at his church as well as for others in the community.
Survivors are his wife, Jenny Golden Boatright of Deepstep; children, Jill Buran and her husband Scott of Kennesaw, Bob Boatright of Powder Springs and Scott Boatright of Deepstep; grandchildren, Nicholas Buran and Zach Buran both of Atlanta and Austin Boatright of Dallas; and siblings, George Garbutt and his wife Linda of Cumming and Virginia G. Sheppard and her husband Gene of Oconee.
