Master Sgt. Louis Andrew “Coconut” Chapman
Mr. Louis Andrew “Coconut” Chapman, age 91, of 2355 Adams Road in Sandersville died Monday August 3 in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday August 7 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. The Rev. Larry Giles will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bill Chapman, Michael Franklin, Marion Nelson, Lonnie Yates, Carey Franklin, Chris Chapman, Ken Chapman, Greg Chapman and Michael Boatright.
Mr. Chapman was a native of Jefferson County, Georgia, the son of the late Henry Chapman and the late Mattie Lou Chapman Altieri. He retired from the United States Army with over twenty one years of active service. He was a World War II veteran having participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He received numerous accommodations and decorations including service in three major campaigns during World War II. He was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church. Mr. Chapman was a Master Mason of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58 of Sandersville, a Scottish Rite Mason in Macon, a York Rite Mason in Milledgeville and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sandersville. Mr. Chapman had over sixty years of service as a Mason and over fifty years service as a Scottish Rite Mason. He was the owner and operator of Riverside Hunting and Fishing Club for over fifty years in Washington County. He was an avid sportsman and conservationist. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty eight years, Thelma Hodges Chapman and a grandson, Charles (Charlie) Chapman.
Survivors are his children, Teddie Louis Chapman and his wife Gudrun of Marietta, Col Henry C. Chapman and his wife Shirley of Tennille, Patricia C. Franklin-Ramage and her husband Doye of Milledgeville, and David Morris Chapman and his wife Ida of Sandersville, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a niece, Ellen Ireland of Brunswick, a nephew, James Smith of California and several cousins.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening.
