Lyman Haze Yates

July 6, 1935 — November 1, 2019

Mr. Lyman Haze Yates, age 84, of Jordan Mill Road, Sandersville, died Friday, November 1, 2019 following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4 th , at 2:00 p.m. at Sisters Baptist Church with burial in Brownwood Cemetery.  Reverend Andy Yates, Reverend Brian Welch and Reverend Jason Loggins will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Tim Beal, Victor Colson, Derick Dalton, Kyle Yates, Lamar Godfrey, Joe Hartley and Jeffrey Decker.  Honorary groups will be the Silent Seekers Sunday School Class and former co-workers from Burgess Pigment.

Mr. Yates was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Lonnie Lyman Yates and the late Myrtice Yates.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served in Arkansas, Korea, North Carolina and Maryland.  Mr. Yates worked for Central Packing Company prior to working for Burgess Pigment Company from which he would retire after 36 years of service as a maintenance supervisor.  He was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church and an active attendee at Sisters Baptist where he was a member of the Silent Seekers Sunday School, treasurer of the men’s Brotherhood as well as serving the church in numerous other roles. Lyman enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lois Dalton Yates, and siblings, Ann Yates Hall, Leon Yates, Tommy Yates and Bernard Yates.

Survivors include, his children, Andy L. Yates and his wife Tamara of Sandersville, Angie Y. Tyson and her husband Dylan, and Michael Yates and his wife Geri all of Harrison; grandchildren, Andrew Yates and his wife Gracie, Tyler Panfil, Brandon Panfil, Michaela Yates, Christopher Yates, Gambill Williams, Maggie Williams, and Abe Williams; sisters, Helen Perkins of Brookline, Mass. Kathleen Godfrey and her husband Delma of Oconee, and brother, Wayne Yates and his wife Lisa of Sandersville.

The family will be at the Yates residence on Jordan Mill Road, Sandersville and they will receive friends on Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Donations may be made to Sister Baptist Church 1807 E. McCarty Street, Sandersville, GA. 31082 or to the donor’s favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
