Lynda Hodges Lindsey

Mrs. Lynda Hodges Lindsey, age 80, of South Brown Street in Oconee, died Friday, April 05, 2019 at her residence, the home in which she was born.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8 th at 12 noon at Antioch Christian Church in Oconee with burial in the church cemetery.  Pastors Tom Howard, Roger Holley and Dennis Burgess will officiate.  Pallbearers will be her nephews: Lane Smith, Martin Smith, Ken West, Chris West, Dee Lindsey, Mike Sheppard, Gene Sheppard, William Sheppard, Greg Hodges and George Fryhofer.

Mrs. Lindsey was a native of Oconee, the daughter of the late William Eugene Hodges and the late Mattie Mae Hodges.  She was a long-time educator affectionately teaching first grade to many, and known for her story telling times using a multitude of hats to help illustrate her stories.  Mrs. Lindsey graduated from Georgia State College for Women and taught school in Fort Valley, Atlanta and Baldwin County prior to returning to Washington County from which she retired from Elder Primary School.  She was a lifelong member of Antioch Christian Church where she formerly taught Sunday school, worked with the church’s annual VBS and was a member of the Ladies Council.  Mrs. Lindsey was active in her community as a volunteer with Washington County Regional Medical Center as well as the Gideon Auxiliary.  Most of all, Lynda cherished her family and was proud of her heritage.  Mrs. Lindsey is predeceased by her siblings Lucien (Bud) Hodges, Ellen Hodges Fryhofer and Billy Hodges.

She is survived by: her husband, Richard Lindsey of Oconee; children: Kim Lindsey Brantley and her husband Ronnie and Keith Lindsey and his wife Beth all of Tennille; grandchildren: Campbell Brantley, Reid Brantley, Sarah Lindsey Chandler and her husband Steven; great grandchildren: Kaylee Autumn Chandler, Turner Hodges Chandler and Maddilynn Michelle Chandler; her sister, Mable Hodges Sheppard; her sister-in-law, Joyce Cox Hodges and a special caregiver, Venida Curry and the Pruitt Hospice care providers.

The family will be at the Hodges residence on S. Brown Street in Oconee and they will receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
