M. Hugh Turner

M. Hugh Turner, 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Southern Oaks in Tifton, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille, Georgia, with the Rev. Greg Pope officiating.

Mr. Turner was born August 17, 1938, in Tennille, Georgia, to the late Thomas & Myrtice Horton Turner. He served honorably in the United States Army Reserves. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. Mr. Turner was the organizing President and CEO when The Bank of Fitzgerald was founded. He also served as President and CEO of Colony Bankcorp. After his career in banking, Mr. Turner was a local business owner. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald. Some of his favorite things in life included bass fishing, looking after his Labrador retrievers, attending University of Georgia football games, and spending time at his farm.

He is survived by his children: Mark Turner and his wife Beth Hall-Turner of Fitzgerald, Maria Turner Ray and her husband Michael Ray of Auburn, Alabama, and Michael Turner and his wife Carrie Ann Turner of Tifton; grandchildren: Grant Turner, Evan Turner, Marina Ray, Maille Ray, Lillie Turner, Mac Turner, and Perrin Turner; a brother, Harold Turner of Macon; and three sisters: Ellen & Grady Askew, Judy Morgan, and Debbie Burgamy, all of Tennille.

Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald, Ga is in charge of the arrangements.
