Madolyn Young Burkholder

October 14, 1921 — January 22, 2011

Mrs. Madolyn Young Burkholder, age 89, of 115 Wedgewood Drive in Sandersville passed away on Saturday January 22 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday January 24 in the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clay McDaniel, Joshua Young, Bill Kesterton, William Hall, Michael Young, and Trumey Lee Patrick III.

Mrs. Burkholder was born in Washington County on October 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Lewis Willis Young and the late Lena Corilla Jones Young. She graduated from Georgia Teacher’s College in Statesboro. She taught elementary school in the Georgia public school system for over thirty years. She retired from the Richmond County Public School System. Mrs. Burkholder was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for over 50 years.
Mrs. Burkholder was an active community volunteer for many years in Augusta, Georgia, where she lived most of adult life. She was very involved with the meals on wheels program.
Mrs. Burkholder was preceded in death by her husbands, Huey Clark and Harold M. Burkholder.

She is survived by one sister, Helen Young Wood of Gray. This loving aunt is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Mt.Gilead Primitive Baptist Church on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service. Donations in memory of Mrs. Burkholder may be made to the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund , 154 Mt. Gilead Road, Tennille, Georgia 31089.
