Mrs. Margaret Barfield Lindsey, age 92, of Riddleville, died on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Heritage Inn following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Rusty Haynes, Matt Lindsey, Mark Jarvis, Adrian Noble, Clay Kitchings and Matt Rector. Mrs. Lindsey's family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church, prior to her service.
Mrs. Lindsey was a lifelong resident of Washington County, daughter of the late James Barfield and the late Iduma Price Barfield. She was married to her husband Rufus for 66 years prior to his death. She spent her life as a farmer's wife and mother, nurturing her family in many ways. She and Rufus were known for the wonderful vegetables they grew and shared. She spent summers freezing and canning vegetables they grew. Mrs. Lindsey was an excellent cook, always preparing daily lunches, where many drop-by visitors were often welcomed at her table. Mrs. Lindsey was an active member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she was involved in the WMU and many other ministries throughout the years. Her church family was an important part of her life. In addition to her parents and her husband Rufus Lindsey, she is also predeceased by her twin sister Jean B. Brown, sisters, Alene B. Snow and Madelyn B. Hawk and her brother Randall Barfield.
Survivors include her children, Joann L. Milam and her husband Sheldon, Faye L. Haynes and her husband Gary and Grady Lindsey, all of Washington County; grandchildren, Erin Jarvis (Mark), Layla Noble (Adrian), Rusty Haynes (Haley), Marie Kitchings (Clay), Matthew Lindsey and Morgan Rector (Matt); great grandchildren, Ila and Callie Jarvis, Emma, Taylor and Leah Noble, Anna and Sam Kitchings and Bradley Haynes; and siblings, Rubye B. Hitchcock, James Barfield and Larry Barfield.
