Mrs. Margaret Jordan Carr, age 104, of Miamola Avenue, Sandersville, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20
th
at 2:00 p.m. in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville.
Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton will officiate.
Mrs. Carr was born in Arlington, Georgia and raised in Tennille, the daughter of the late Newton Marion Jordan and the late Ruby Nabers Jordan. Newlyweds, she and her husband Tom lived in Boston, where she worked as a librarian at Harvard University while Tom attended M.I.T. prior to serving in WWII. Following the war, they made their home in Sandersville where Mrs. Carr was a homemaker. She was very active in her community as a member of the Sandersville Garden Club where she served as president and of the Sorosis Club. Mrs. Carr was an active member of Sandersville United Methodist Church where she formerly led the primary department for over 20 years and was a member of the Clara Park Circle. Mrs. Carr was a true southern lady who loved to play bridge and possessed the entire world’s gentility, elegance, sense of humor and an unwavering love for her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 62 years, Thomas C. Carr, her brother, Newton Marion “Buddy” Jordan, Jr., her sister, Dorothy Jordan Blakely and her stepmother, Lyda Mandeville Jordan.
Survivors include: her daughters, Margaret C. McCarty and her husband John of Sandersville and Kathy C. Jopling and her husband Bill of Thomson; grandchildren, Margaret M. “Meg” Smith and her husband Eric of Sandersville, David Jopling and his wife Stacie and Miller Jopling all of Thomson; great grandchildren Margaret “Maggie” Levie, Virginia Smith, Emory Jopling and Blakely Jopling; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Jordan of Sandersville; nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers, Barbara Battie, Kimberly Battle, Venida Burden, Desma Duddley, Mary Frances, Gwen James, Bessie Jordan, Vernice Lane, Emma Long, Jean Prosser and Darlene Williams.
The family will be at the McCarty residence on Laurel Drive in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to Sandersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 611 or to Brentwood School, P.O. Box 955, both in Sandersville, GA. 31082 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
