Margaret Holmes Smith

Margaret Holmes Smith, age 62, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility in Sandersville, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was born in Sandersville on December 14, 1949 to the late George Holmes Sr. and DeVera Stanley Holmes and remained a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was a former employee of Helton Mobile- Homes and Maxway, Inc. of Sandersville. Mrs. Smith was a former member of Downs Baptist Church, the Davisboro Community Club, a member and secretary of the Eastern Star, and was currently a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Tennille, Georgia.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband Dennis Smith of Harrison; beloved son William (Cheryl) Horton; grandchildren, Dustin and Jacob of Davisboro; step-daughter Stephanie (Tim) Sanders; step-grandchildren, Kendall and Isaac of Statham; her brother George (Charmaine) Holmes of Miami, Florida; her three sisters, Jean Cowan of Tennille, Betty (Melton) Jones of Tennille, Barbara (Jim) Mooney of Stone Mountain; her nieces, Michele (Scott) Powers of Miami, Sharon Jones and Dianna (Jimmy) Armstrong of Sandersville, Stephanie (Ron) Wood of Lilburn, Shannon (Jim) Goad of Stone Mountain, and Beverly Mooney of Florida; her nephews, Mike Cowan (Shanna) of Belleville, Illinois and Vince (Wendy) Mooney of Acworth and her nephews wife Pam Holmes of South Dakota, as well as a host of cousins and friends. Margaret is predeceased by her nephew Phillip Holmes.

Margaret will be remembered for her strong perseverance and good spirits as she battled with Multiple-Sclerosis and Cancer. She was an inspiration to all.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at May and Smith Funeral Home on Friday, June 22, 2012. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
