Margie Hillman Fessler

November 21, 1924 — August 1, 2022

Mrs. Margie Hillman Fessler, age 97, of Tennille passed away Monday, August 1, 2022.   A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens. Reverend Paul Fessler and Reverend Andy Yates will officiate.  Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Fessler's grandsons and grandsons-in-law.  Extended Care Facility Volunteers and Deacons of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Margie was born and reared in Covington Kentucky, the oldest of four children.  She grew up with a passion for dance and acting.  Following graduation from high school she began singing and dancing in the "Big Band Clubs" of Cincinnati.  She met the love of her life, Marvin George Fessler at church and soon they married and began raising a family.  She lived in Florida prior to moving to Atlanta where Marvin went to seminary.  She served in ministry with Marvin in Marietta, GA., Eden NC., Danville, VA., and lastly at Tennille Christian Church in Tennille, GA. where they retired.  Margie shared her lifelong love of music teaching numerous children piano.  She became a volunteer at the Washington County Extended Care Facility while Marvin was a resident.  She developed a loving ministry there even after his death accumulating over eleven thousand hours of service. Margie was a current and active member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Margie is predeceased by her parents, Stanley Levie Hillman Sr. and Margaret Cox Hillman; son, Mark Fessler; and brother, Stanley Hillman.

Survivors include her son, Paul Fessler and his wife Deborah of Villa Rica; daughter-in-law, Ann Fessler of Greensboro, grandchildren, Cheryl Portwood and her husband Darrell, Jeff Fessler and his wife Jennifer, Karen Minton and her husband Chris, Michael Fessler and his wife Whitney, Daniel Fessler and his wife Tammy, Susan Wood and her husband Tommy, Joy Harden and her husband Joe and Andrew Fessler and his wife Maria; twenty great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and siblings, Mattie Lue Dumas of Florida and Bob Hillman and his wife Sis of North Carolina.

The family will greet friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville.
