Mrs. Margie Elizabeth Gill Johnson, age 81 of Tennille passed away at her residence on Saturday, August 17, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of May and Smith Funeral Home, with burial following in Washington County Memorial Gardens. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate, and pallbearers will be Lonnie Sanders, Robert Yates, Vance Williams, Dustin Johnson, Chris Cooper, and Matt Cooper. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 1:00p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born in The Rock, Georgia, the daughter of the late George Thomas Gill and the late Irene Cook Gill. She was a seamstress by trade, working for Royal Manufacturing and Carter’s. In addition to being a talented seamstress, she also assisted the multiple family businesses as an accountant. Mrs. Johnson also enjoyed gardening and building birdhouses with her own tools. She loved to watch her hummingbirds in the back yard. Mrs. Johnson was a faithful and lifelong member of Sandersville First Church of the Nazarene. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sam Johnson; children, Janet Johnson, Cindy Johnson Glover, and Danny Johnson; and siblings, Edna, Buddy, Tom, J.C. Allen, and Sue.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Stacey Johnson and his wife Billie of Tennille; grandchildren, Emily Marie Klynman, Dustin Philip Johnson; Tiffany Peavy, Stephany Dunn, Daphney Wiley, M’Lisa Booth, Jamie Dixon, and Delaney Glover; several great grandchildren; and siblings, Marvell Shepherd, Martha Carver, Betty Masdon, and Sammy Gill.
