Marianne Ridgway Griffith

January 9, 1939 — June 11, 2015

Mrs. Marianne Ridgway Griffith, age 76, of Eatonton, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 14th at 2:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the First United Methodist Church in Eatonton with Reverend Dave Hinson officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the gathering room of the church.

The daughter of the late Hugh Davis Ridgway Sr. and the late Polly Harber Ridgway, Mrs. Griffith was born in Athens, GA and was a lifelong resident of Eatonton. She married her sweetheart from the second grade, Powell West Griffith II. She devoted her life to her family, raising three sons while working part-time for her father's business. She graduated from Putnam County High School and then Mercer University, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, her husband Powell West Griffith II of Eatonton; her sons, Powell West Griffith III and his wife Beth of Eatonton, Benjamin Ridgway Griffith and his wife Kim of Athens, and William Gregory Griffith and his wife Allison of Birmingham AL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Griffith, Oliva Griffith, Caroline Griffith, all of Eatonton, Grace Griffith, Benjamin Griffith, Bo Griffith, Anabel Griffith all of Athens, John Will Griffith, Lillie Griffith and Yancey Griffith all of Birmingham AL; her brother, Hugh Davis Ridgway, Jr. and his wife Lois of Athens; and sisters-in-law Caroline Lundy and Emily Ridgway both of Eatonton.
