Mr. Marion Dalton, age 83, of Gwendolyn Street in Sandersville, passed away at his residence on Thursday, January 5, 2023 following an extended illness. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel at May and Smith Funeral Directors with burial at Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Andy Yates will officiate. Pallbearers will be B.J. Dalton, Kyle Brooks, Steven Chandler, Brent Palmer, Daniel Dalton, and Austin Teel. Mr. Dalton’s nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the funeral home beginning, at 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service.
Mr. Dalton was born on January 4, 1940, the son of the late Earnest Marion Dalton, Sr. and the late Christine Tanner Dalton. He spent his working years as an employee of American Industrial Clays as a Mine Maintenance Supervisor for 40 years. Mr. Dalton was an avid coon and deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake Sinclair. He also found pleasure in working with cattle and was a past member and president of the Georgia Cattle Association and spent time in his retirement helping Dr. Freddie Cullens on his farm. Mr. Dalton was very gifted and could do almost anything that he set his mind to. In addition to his parents he is proceeded in death by his siblings, Barney Dalton and Lois Dalton Yates.
Mr. Dalton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Porter Dalton; children, Joanna Chandler and her husband Ralph of Davisboro, John Dalton and his wife Danette of Riddleville, Chris Dalton and his wife Tracy of Alexander City, AL, and Louis Dalton and his wife Christina of Sandersville; grandchildren, Anna Marie Palmer and her husband Brent, Steven Chandler and his wife Sarah, B.J. Dalton and his wife Jessie, Megan Brooks and her husband Kyle, Casey Teel and her husband Austin, Daniel Dalton, and Everlee Dalton; great grandchildren, Kaylee Chandler, Maddlynn Chandler, Turner Chandler, Abbey Daniel, Dalton Palmer, Betsy Brooks, Maggie Brooks, Jed Dalton, Mazie Teel, and Lilly Teel; sister, Rosalyn Dalton Lord of Sandersville; sister-in-law, Velma Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.
