Marion Meeks

Mr. Marion Meeks, Sr. age 86, of Sandersville passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Washington County Extended Care Facility. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Sister’s Baptist Church in Sandersville with burial to follow in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverend Burt Parker and Reverend Ronnie Duncan will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kevin Meeks, Daniel Durham, Peyton Janes, John Britt, Gene Deal and Ryan Dixon.. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Meeks was a lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late George Marion Meeks and the late Irene Brown Meeks. He was a 1955 graduate of Tennille High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Meeks was the owner and operator of Meeks Tractor Company for 38 years, from 1965 until 2004. He was a member of the Ag Georgia Farm Credit Board for 28 years, and a past member of the Washington County Hospital Authority, as well as a member of the Tennille Rotary Club. He spent his spare time on the family farm as a cattleman. Mr. Meeks was a deacon and member of Sister’s Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Troy Meeks, Betty Thackery, and Earl Meeks.

Mr. Meeks is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Turk Meeks; daughter, Becky Durham and her husband Dan of Greensboro; son, Joe Meeks of Sandersville; grandchildren, Daniel Durham and his wife Kensley, and Dana Janes and her husband Peyton; great grandchildren, Walker Durham, Ellie Jo Durham, and Aaron “A.J.” Janes; and siblings, Mack Meeks and his wife Charlotte of Amelia Island, FL, George Meeks and his wife Lois of Winder, and Elaine Adams of Harrison.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Meeks’ memory to Sister’s Baptist Church 1807 E. McCarty Street, Sandersville, Ga. 31082.
