Mrs. Marjorie Polk Wright, age 76, of Sandersville, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Reverends Joe Buck, Jeff Cook and Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be Glenn Walker, Randy Helton, Ben Tarbutton Jr., Russ Garland, Jonathon Ford and Jay Jackson. Members of the United Methodist Women will sit as an honorary group.
Mrs. Wright was born in Americus, Sumter County, the daughter of the late Rufus Franklin Polk and the late Lucille Finney Polk. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Caroline Grace Wright. Marjorie spent her working career as a secretary for the Washington County Board of Education, State Farm Insurance and she retired from Roger Mix Insurance. She possessed a lifelong love of music and shared her talent by being a longtime member of the Sandersville UMC chancel choir as well as working as the chapel organist for May and Smith Funeral Directors. Marjorie was a member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s group where she currently served as district president. She has been a faithful attendee of the Tennille United Methodist Church where she currently served as the church organist. Marjorie served as the longtime secretary for the Sandersville United Methodist Church Foundation. She was an avid Washington County Golden Hawks fan and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors are her husband, Carl S. Wright of Sandersville; children, Pamela W. Whitney and her husband Less of Missoula, Montana, Chuck S. Wright and his wife Penny and Phil C. Wright and his wife Karen all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Philip Wright and his wife Lisa, David Goldberg, Joe Goldberg, Julia Goldberg, Zachery Wright and his wife Molly, Megan Wright and Nicholas Wright; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jeanene Vinson of Milledgeville and Judy Shelton and her husband Fred of Homestead, FL.
The family will be at the Wright residence and they will receive friends Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
