Mark Williamson

January 13, 1948 — March 2, 2012

Mr. Mark Williamson, age 64, of Louisville, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Jefferson County Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 6th at 11:00 am at the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery with military honors. The Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Emmitt Hall, Lynn Brantley, Johnny Davis, Brad Campbell, Carl Wagster, Jimmy Miller, Chip Evans and Gary Hutchins. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Jefferson County Correctional Institute.

Mr. Williamson was born and reared in Emanuel County the son of the late William Dover Williamson, Sr. and the late Mildred Elizabeth Sherrod Williamson. He served in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War serving as a military policeman. Mr. Williamson began a 40 plus year career in law enforcement in the early 70’s with the Midville Police Department. He later worked with the Swainsboro Police Department and also served as the Chief of Police for the City of Sandersville. Mr. Williamson later worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and in 1996 he was appointed as the Deputy Warden of the Jefferson County Correctional Institute, the position he held at the time of his death. He was a member of his childhood church Long Creek Baptist Church in Emanuel County and he was an active attendee of the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Washington County. Mark loved family, farming and raising animals.

Survivors include his wife June Hogan Williamson of Louisville, daughters, Serena Talkington of Warner Robins, Jessica W. Holdeman (Brendon) of Louisville and Amy W. Cato (Chris) of Evans, grandchildren, Blaire Holdeman, Brett Holdeman, Emma Cato and Anna Cato, brothers, William Williamson (Melvadean) of Vidalia, and Benny Williamson (Helen) of Midville and sisters Helen W. Irby and Martha Ann W. Sumner both of Michigan and Sue W. Canady (Bobby) of Twin City.

The family will be at the Holdeman residence 1025 Par Drive in Louisville and will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
