Ms. Martha Gilmore Eskew, age 88, of Sandersville, died Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Cecil Cook will officiate. The family will greet friends also on Thursday prior to the service beginning at 1:30 using social distancing practices.
Martha Reid Gilmore Eskew was born October 17, 1032 in Richmond County, the daughter of the late Robert Wiley Gilmore Sr. and the late Anna Reid Walker Gilmore. During her married life, Martha lived in Waynesboro with her late husband Jack Eskew prior to moving to Sandersville in 2000 to be near family. She enjoyed reading mysteries and romances, working crossword puzzles, visiting with family and friends and shopping. Martha will always be remembered for her warm hugs and "I Love You's" to all who entered her door.
She is survived by her biological daughter, Frances Eavenson Todd and her husband Steve of Savannah; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Wall G. Tanner and Betty G. Godowns both of Sandersville; nieces and nephews, Susan Gilmore of California, Pam Frederick, Donna Turner and her husband Paul and Lisa Taylor and her husband Michael all of Sandersville, George Michael Gilmore of California, Bobby Gilmore of Australia; many great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. Martha is also survived by a host of "special loved ones", Fran and Steve Todd, Chris Butler, Caleigh Todd, Betty Sanders, Lillian Hagans and Dee Jackson all who brought much joy to her life. In addition to her parents and husband, Martha is also predeceased by siblings, Robert Wiley Gilmore, Jr., William "Popeye" Gilmore, Johnny Gilmore, May Gilmore and nephews Gregory Gilmore and Rick Gilmore.
