Martha Louise Hodges Pagett, age 82, formerly of Sandersville, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Hospital following a brief illness. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 24th, at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, North Carolina. Her parents, Robert Theophalous and Mary Gilmore Hodges, preceded her in death as did her older brother, Harold Hughes Hodges. Martha was devoted to her family and her church; she enjoyed living on the water, watching the birds on the island, gardening, cooking, volunteering and listening to blue grass music. She was looking forward to bungee jumping and hand gliding.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul Perrian Padgett, Sr. Immediate survivors include a daughter, Jeanclaire Padgett Morris of Sandersville, and grandsons, Berry Alfred of Sandersville and Jim Allen Morris of Bartow; a daughter, Martha Elaine (Marlaine) Padget Thomas (Leon) of coastal North Caroline, and Marlaine's two children and three grandchildren; and a son Paul Perrian (Perry) Padgett, Jr. (Lisa) of northwestern Georgia, and Perry's two children. Also surviving is an older sister, Lucy Hodges Thompson of Columbus and her two children, Judy Abare and Ginny Lovett, Lucy's four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The widow of Mrs. Padgett's late brother, Betty P. Hodges of Sandersville, also survives and lives in Sandersville.
