Marvin George Fessler

Mr. Marvin George Fessler, age 89, of Tennille, died Wednesday, May 02, 2012 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 2:00pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. His sons, Mark Fessler and Paul Fessler, along with Rev. Jim Nipper will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Fessler, Michael Fessler, Daniel Fessler, Andrew Fessler, Darrell Portwood, Chris Minton and Tommy Wood.

Mr. Fessler was born in Covington KY, the son of the late Robert G. Fessler and the late Margaret Elizabeth Young Fessler. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. After military service, Marvin began his working career in Coral Gables Fl. as the Manager of the Coral Gables Savings and Loan and was also a charter member of the Coral Gables Rotary Club. While in Florida, Marvin received his call to the ministry and he then attended the Atlanta Christian College where he received his BA in Ministry. He served churches in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia before returning to Georgia to pastor the Tennille Christian Church from where he retired and his membership still resides. He was a resident of the Washington County Extended Care Facility for 12 years. He is a former member and secretary of the Tennille Rotary Club, the American Legion and the Washington County Ministerial Association.

Survivors are: his wife, Margie Hillman Fessler, of Tennille; sons, Mark Alan (Ann) Fessler of the Villages FL, and Paul J. (Debbie) Fessler of Villa Rica; eight grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mattie Lue H. (Roger) Dumas of Tavares FL; and his brother-in-law, Bob (Sis) Hillman of Yanceyville NC.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the Funeral Home and also on Friday from 1pm until the hour of service.
