Mrs. Mary Ellen Blackmon, age 92 of Riddleville, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, following an extended illness. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with burial following in the Walden’s Methodist Church Cemetery in Avera. Reverend Mike Rogers and Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate, and pallbearers will be Boone Blackmon, Corey Blackmon, Mike Rogers, Mack Rogers, David Blackmon, Scout Blackmon, Bryan Clothey, and James Watson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Blackmon was born in White Plains, the daughter of the late Ralph Edwin Boone and the late Mary Hazel Duffee Boone. She began her working career in the sewing factory in Stapleton until she met and married her husband James, then she devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Blackmon enjoyed sewing and singing, and she was an excellent homemaker and cook, and enjoyed reading Ideal’s Magazine. She was a true romantic and her favorite movie was Gone with the Wind. Church was extremely important, and she always made sure her children were in church and she also read them Bible stories regularly. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of Walden’s Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Ernest Blackmon, and her son, Michael Allen Blackmon.
Mrs. Blackmon is survived by her daughter, Meredith Chapman (William) of Riddleville; sons, Jim Blackmon (Kathy) of Woodstock, Keith Blackmon (Cathy) of Louisville, Walter Blackmon of Riddleville, and Clinton Blackmon (April) of Blairsville; grandchildren, Boone Blackmon (Jodi Holdeman), Kaye Clothey (Bryan), Holly Watson (James), Corey Blackmon, Mike Rogers (Bekki), Mack Rogers (Sarah), David Blackmon (Michaela), Scout Blackmon, and India Jackson; great grandchildren, Ally Blackmon, Gill Watson, Cora Rogers, Everlee Rogers, Thalia Rogers, Landon Blackmon, Cohen Blackmon, Asher Blackmon, Izzy Blackmon, Marlo East, Dallas Hood, Autumn Hood, and Destin Hood; and sister, Jeanie Boone of Mableton.
