Long-time Falmouth, Massachusetts resident Mary F. (Chambers) Cooke died peacefully at her home in Groton on June 27. She was 95 years old.
Mrs. Cooke and her late husband of 71 years, Roy L. Cooke, lived on Hatchville Road in Falmouth until October 2013, at which time they moved to Rivercourt Residences in Groton. She is survived by their children—Sandra (Cooke) (Rappaport) Leiby of Cameron, North Carolina, Joy Cooke of Bolton, and Kevin Cooke of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho—and by their grandchildren Elliot D. Rappaport of Surry, Maine, Joshua S. Rappaport of Seattle, Washington, Zachary B. Allen of Bolton and Christopher Cooke of Richmond, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Jamie and Alex Chase-Rappaport, Canaan Bryant, Kaiden Schorzman, and Roman Cooke.
Born in Sandersville, Georgia in 1925, Mrs. Cooke was one of the seven children (and the only daughter) of J. Fred and Mary (Wiggins) Chambers. She is predeceased by her brothers Frank Chambers, James Chambers and Robert Chambers and is survived by her brothers Fred Chambers, Douglas Chambers, and Ronnie Chambers.
Mrs. Cooke and her husband moved to Cape Cod from California in 1959, moved to Falmouth in 1960, and made the town their retirement home when Mr. Cooke retired from the Air Force in 1969. She was an active member of John Wesley Methodist Church. She managed the office of the East Falmouth Elementary School; later, she worked at Falmouth National Bank, where she became Personnel Officer.
In addition to keeping track of her adventurous and wide-spread family, Mrs. Cooke’s lifelong enthusiasm was for flowering plants and vegetable gardening, an interest evidenced by the lovely grounds of her Hatchville Road home.
